A national trade association dedicated to the transportation and logistic interests of the North American glass industry and its allied suppliers of sand, soda ash, limestone and aggregates
History
GISCC was founded originally in 1974 as the Glass Producers Transportation Council, and has grown to over 23 member companies today, representing collectively approximately $2 billion in annual transportation “spend.” Its members include most of the North American producers of glass containers, architectural and flat glass products, fiberglas, specialty glass and most major suppliers of soda ash, sand, limestone and aggregates used to manufacture glass products. The name was changed in 2022 to Glass Industry Supply Chain Council to reflect the makeup of the membership, and to accurately describe how critical each piece of the supply chain is to the whole.
Our Mission and Activities
GISCC’s mission is to promote the best interests of the industry and its member companies with respect to transportation and logistics issues. For example, GISCC is heavily involved in legislative efforts to reform federal regulation of rail transportation with respect to rates, intramodal competition, equal access and related issues impacting upon transportation costs for our members. GISCC is a member of the Alliance For Rail Competition (“ARC”) and participates in all major STB/Congressional matters relating to transportation initiatives.
Specific activities, protocols and operations of GISCC include the following:
GISCC is also involved in motor carrier issues (e.g., CSA 2010, truck length and weight legislation, etc.) and other issues impacting on logistic developments in the glass industry.
GISCC normally conducts two physical membership meetings per year (one is normally in Washington, D.C. for access to legislative consultants as well as legislators and agency officials). Each meeting is preceded by a dinner the night before to provide members with an opportunity to review issues and organizational matters and an opportunity for informal networking.
All GISCC meetings (as well as informal meetings and the dinner the night before) are attended by GISCC’s legal counsel. GISCC has a formal antitrust compliance policy and all members are required to certify on a regular basis their understanding and willingness to comply with the policy. The GISCC antitrust compliance policy is reviewed by legal counsel before every meeting. All meetings are preceded by a written agenda and permanent minutes are recorded and maintained by counsel.
On a regular basis, the GISCC staff provides to all members by e-mail many items of interest, including updates on legislative activities and agendas, STB proceedings and rulings and items of interest to busy transportation executives.
Currently, annual dues are $2,500.00 per company (multiple company representatives can attend meetings if decided).
